Kalovate, a new platform, helps residents discover local classes, events, and opportunities to connect, and highlights people and activities that help communities thrive.

The name Kalovate combines the Greek word kalos, meaning good, beautiful, or noble, with the word elevate. The result reflects the platform’s vision of celebrating and promoting the positive things happening throughout the community.

Matt Michie, co-owner of Fig Tree Market, started Kalovate after seeing a need for easier ways to discover how people can gather, learn, and engage locally.

The hope of the platform is to raise up the good and beautiful things that are being done in the community and shine a light on the things that help a community grow and prosper,” said Michie.

Kalovate currently features two main components. The first is a platform for local classes, workshops, and gatherings. Initial offerings include yoga and a coffee-tasting class, both at Fig Tree Market. Organizers hope to expand as more instructors, makers, and community members join.

We’re starting with yoga classes and a coffee tasting class, but we hope to grow as more local teachers, makers, and community members choose to participate,” Michie said.

Kalovate is actively seeking additional instructors and organizations interested in listing classes and workshops on the platform.

The second component is community news and events. The community calendar is meant to be a simple place designed to help residents stay informed about what’s happening in the area. In addition to highlighting major community events, the platform aims to provide visibility for smaller gatherings and activities that can sometimes be overlooked.

I wanted to create a clean, consolidated place where people can see what’s happening without having to dig through a bunch of social media posts,” Michie explained.

In addition to the event calendar, Kalovate hosts community newsletters, including publications from the Greater Ellettsville Area Chamber of Commerce and Ellettsville Main Street Inc. Future plans include expanding local coverage through longer-form community stories and articles that highlight the people, organizations, and events shaping the community.

We’d love to work with community organizations, event organizers, and local writers who want to share what’s happening in our area,” said Michie.

If you are a community group, nonprofit, business, or resident interested in adding events, listing classes, or contributing community-focused content, reach out to Kalovate today to get involved and help shape your community’s story.

As the platform continues to grow, its goal remains simple: helping people discover meaningful opportunities to learn, gather, connect, and engage with their community while strengthening the connections that make Ellettsville and the surrounding area a great place to live.
