The Town of Ellettsville has recognized Sergeant Richard R. Hall of the Ellettsville Police Department as its 2025 Police Officer of the Year, honoring his dedication, professionalism, and service to the community.
Sergeant Hall began his law enforcement career with the Ellettsville Police Department as a reserve officer in 2011, volunteering his time to perform the duties of a full-time police officer. Since then, he has excelled throughout his career and is described as a “lead from the front” supervisor.
In 2025 alone, Sergeant Hall responded to 267 calls for service, conducted 558 traffic stops, and made 23 arrests for impaired driving. In addition to his duties with the Ellettsville Police Department, he serves on the Monroe County Major Crash Investigations Team as one of three Drug Recognition Experts (DREs), evaluating drivers involved in crashes resulting in fatalities or catastrophic injuries.
