WHAT:: Wake Up! with United Way “Representing Workers During a Pandemic”

WHO: Co-hosted by United Way and Indiana University’s Political and Civic Engagement Guest speakers are Linda Gales, Executive Vice President of the IU Unit of Communications Workers of America, Local 4818; Neil Gath, Attorney specializing in labor law at Social Security Disability and Workers Compensation; Joseph Varga, Professor in the Department of Labor Studies at the IU School of Social Work; and Brett Voorhies, President of Indiana AFL-CIO.
DESCRIPTION: Monthly speaker series featuring an enlightening presentation and discussion of timely topics that directly or indirectly affect everyone in our area.
On Thursday, December 10, we will explore, “Representing Workers During a Pandemic.” The discussion will cover topics including union membership, workers’ safety, the CARES Act, Unemployment Insurance, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), and mental health for workers during COVID-19.
Alongside friends, neighbors, nonprofits and community partners, learn more about issues that directly or indirectly affect everyone in our area. Attendees will have the opportunity to deepen their awareness about someone else’s reality while learning about the challenges, innovations, collaborations, resources available through area nonprofits, and how to get more involved in making a difference. Guests are invited to come with questions for the speakers or just listen and learn.
Wake Up! with United Way is co-hosted by United Way of Monroe County and Indiana University’s Political and Civic Engagement program, with support from presenting sponsors Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and Bloomington Board of Realtors.
