Several local businesses and not-for-profit organizations have received calls from someone impersonating a Duke Energy representative threatening to disconnect their service unless they make an immediate payment. Thankfully, these businesses contacted the Duke Energy team to verify and did not fall for this scam.
In recent years, utilities have seen increased reports of scammers posing as utility workers and contacting customers to access financial information or obtain immediate payment. Please remain vigilant and know Duke Energy would never disconnect a customer in this manner. If you are aware of a local business or not-for-profit that received a call like this, please direct them to Duke Energy’s Scam Reporting Tool.
