CDFI Friendly Bloomington is a 501(c)(3) organization implementing a new strategy developed for the unique challenges of smaller communities to increase flexible and affordable financing for businesses, nonprofits, affordable housing, and community projects in Bloomington, IN, and the Indiana Uplands region. The mission of CDFI Friendly Bloomington is to strengthen the communities in and around Bloomington and the Indiana Uplands, and to improve the economic conditions of lower income residents by assisting community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and other organizations in providing accessible, flexible financing for affordable housing, job growth and other community development projects. In 2018, Bloomington became the nation’s first “CDFI Friendly” city, an innovative new approach to help draw CDFI financing to smaller markets.
