From: Chamber Board President, Christa Curtis
In January of this year, our volunteer Chamber board of Directors spent time talking about our role and the value we deliver to our members. During that planning session, we identified that advocacy is one of the most important roles of the Chamber. We believe that we should amplify the voice of local business, but also represent all parts of our community. In fact, our mission says that the chamber is “dedicated to advancing the economic vitality and quality of life in the Ellettsville area so that the entire community can prosper.”
Over the last few months, the Chamber has stepped up our advocacy efforts to serve our members and our community. Here are a few examples:
- Developed a new external affairs committee to create more focus on advocacy
- Co-hosted the recent community discussion on new Stormwater Ordinances Read more here: https://ellettsvillechamber.org/news/community-gathers-for-insightful-discussion-on-new-stormwater-ordinances/
- Joined a work group with other local organizations to review and provide feedback on updates to Monroe County’s Development Ordinances (CDO). Read the Monroe CDO here: https://monroecdo.com
- Provided feedback and support to the development of an updated Unified Development Ordinance for the town of Ellettsville. Read the Ellettsville UDO here: https://ellettsville.in.us/egov/documents/1719246251_51932.pdf
- Collaborated with the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce to address the Monroe County Council and County Commissioners on the topic of the future jail site. The county has narrowed their options to the North Park that sits east of Ellettsville, but the chambers offered another land option for consideration. Read the press release here: (add link)
These are important discussions that impact our members and our community. We urge you as business leaders to stay informed, but also share your questions and concerns with the chamber by emailing us at info@ellettsvillechamber.org so we can represent your viewpoint.
